# Crowns & Bridges in Keshav Puram, New Delhi

> A crown is a tooth-coloured cap that covers and protects a weak, cracked or root-canal-treated tooth. A bridge replaces a missing tooth by joining an artificial tooth to crowns on the teeth beside the gap. Both usually take two visits.

- Visits: Usually 2
- Between visits: Up to a week
- Pain: Fully numbed
- Consultation: From ₹100

## Who it is for

Dr. Sneha may suggest a crown or a bridge for:

- A tooth after root canal treatment, especially a back tooth
- A tooth with a very large filling
- A cracked, broken or badly worn tooth
- One or more missing teeth (bridge)
- Improving the shape or colour of a tooth

**Types of crowns**

- Metal-ceramic: strong, with a tooth-coloured outer layer
- Zirconia: very strong and tooth-coloured, with no metal
- All-ceramic: the most natural look, often for front teeth

**Why replace a missing tooth**

- Neighbouring teeth tilt into the gap
- The opposite tooth can over-grow
- Your bite changes and food gets trapped

## What happens, step by step

1. **Examination and X-ray.** Dr. Sneha checks the tooth and the roots, and explains crown types and costs.
2. **Shaping the tooth.** Under local anaesthesia, decay and old filling are removed and the tooth is shaped to make room for the crown.
3. **Impression or digital scan.** A precise mould or scan is sent to the dental lab to make your crown or bridge.
4. **Temporary crown.** A temporary crown protects the tooth while the final one is made.
5. **Fitting the final crown.** At the second visit the crown is checked for fit, bite and colour, then cemented in place.

## How long it takes

- 2 visits: one to prepare, one to fit
- Up to a week: between visits while the lab makes it
- Many years: with good care

Most crowns last at least 5 years, and many last 15 years or more with good care.

## Is it painful?

Painless treatment is how we work. The area is fully numbed with local anaesthesia before we begin, so you feel pressure, not pain. Dr. Sneha explains each step before she starts. Mild sensitivity to hot or cold for a few days after fitting is common and settles on its own.

## Aftercare

- With a temporary crown, avoid sticky and hard food and chew on the other side.
- When flossing a temporary crown, slide the floss out sideways rather than pulling it up.
- Brush twice a day and floss daily; clean under a bridge with a floss threader or interdental brush.
- Avoid biting very hard things such as ice or nut shells. Ask about a night guard if you grind your teeth.

Call the clinic if a temporary crown comes off, your bite feels high, or pain does not settle.

## Cost

The price depends on the type of crown and the number of teeth involved. Dr. Sneha explains the options and confirms the cost before treatment begins.

Consultation from ₹100.

## Questions about crowns and bridges

**Why do I need a crown after a root canal?**

A tooth that needed a root canal has usually lost a lot of structure and becomes brittle. A crown holds it together so you can chew normally without it cracking.

**Will a crown look natural?**

Yes. Zirconia and all-ceramic crowns are matched to the colour of your own teeth.

**How long do crowns and bridges last?**

Most last many years, often 15 years or more, with good brushing, flossing and six-monthly check-ups.

**Does getting a crown hurt?**

No. The tooth is numbed while it is shaped. Mild sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal.

**Should I choose a bridge or an implant?**

A bridge uses the teeth on either side for support. An implant replaces the root itself and does not involve the neighbouring teeth. Dr. Sneha will advise based on your teeth, bone and budget.
